Top 10 Signs of Maturity: How Do You Know If Someone Is Mature or Not?

“Are you mature?”

“Yes, I am!”

Well, that sounds cool but how do you know that you are mature?  I mean, of course, anyone would reply with a “yes” when they are asked whether they are mature or not. But, here’s the point you need to keep in mind: If a person needs to brag about his maturity, he’s very likely to be an immature one.

You need to understand that, maturity is not like getting a new haircut or getting pregnant that can be seen or perceived from the outside. Rather, maturity is totally an inside process which can’t be seen but felt, witnessed or experienced.

However, identifying a matured person from a bunch of immature fellows could be a hard task but, there are a few signs of maturity that you can always relate to yourself or others when it comes to maturity.

Now, maturity has to do with a lot of stuff that I will discuss here. But before we really go in there, the most important factor that one must keep in mind that maturity has nothing to do with age, education, gender or the years of experience you have in any specific field. A person could hold numerous university degrees and still remain immature.

Like I said before, maturity is completely an inside process and it comes with responsibility, understanding and the realization of it.

Now let’s check out 10 signs of maturity.

  1. You Finally Understand the Struggles of Your Parents

Not everyone understands the struggles of their parents; appreciate their hard works and the sacrifices they have made. So if you can feel the pain and sacrifices of your parents now, you are mature.

  1. You Care but Don’t Show it

This point may appear a little surprising to some since most people think that NOT caring is the key to maturity.

That’s totally wrong.

The true sign of maturity is when you truly care for someone, do well for someone and wish good for someone but you never brag about it or never let them know. Not expecting anything in return of your favor is also a true sign of maturity.

  1. You Value Your Self Respect More than Love

I totally agree that love can heal and create anything that you thought was never possible. But, losing yourself in the process of loving someone or being with someone is not what the true definition of love is.
Similarly, murdering your pride and dignity just to be with your lover is the most foolish yet the most expensive mistake that you will ever make in your life. Placing your self-respect at the top is the utmost sign of maturity. This rule is applicable in every small or big undertakings in your life.

  1. Social Media Doesn’t Interest You Anymore

Are you one of those to spend a big chunk of time on facebook, instagram, twitter or any other such social networking sites? If the answer is yes, someone needs to get rid of something.

Mature people tend to value their time. Mature people know that all social media networks are nothing but a fake world. They know that everything is superficial in the social media universe.

This is the reason why you will never see a mature person obsessed with social media. They will instead go out and engage themselves in the undertaking that may help in the development of their knowledge.

I encounter a lot of people eating out in the restaurant with their family or loved ones. To my dismay, most of the time I see almost all the family members are swiping through with their cellphone's screen. They don't feel like talking to the person sitting beside. They don't even enjoy the food. The outside world attracts them more than the reality.

Here the point is, a mature person would never engage himself or herself on something which holds no importance in reality. They live in the NOW and social media doesn't ignite any fire of excitement in them.

  1. You Value and Respect Time – You Know That Time Is Limited

The most mature people know that nothing comes free in this world. They know that they are basically selling their time to earn a livelihood, to buy a house or to buy a new sports car.

On top of it, the catastrophe is that you can always tell how much money you have left in your bank account but you can never tell how much time you are left with to live your life. Isn’t it earth-shattering?

So if you value and respect the time and use it very wisely, congrats, you are mature.

  1. You Don’t Fall Prey to the SALE Offers

If you look around, you will find a bunch of online or offline marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, Wallmart etc. coming with their so-called greatest deals at the cheapest price every year or every month.

Mature people know that all these deals are nothing but prudent marketing planning to steal more money from you. It's only making them richer while you struggle to come out of the debt.

Mature people know that this is one of the biggest scams so they don’t really concern themselves with such "SALES" and "Limited Period Offers". They only buy what they need instead of buying what they want.

  1. Invest Your Time in Reading

Your money, job or wealth can be taken away at any given time but the knowledge you acquire today will be with you eternally, until the last breath of yours. It is inseparable.

One of the signs of maturity is when you read a lot to acquire diverse knowledge. True true sign of maturity is when you never stop learning. You become like a 2-year-old. You always want to know and learn new things.

Here's the secret, when someone says he’s mature and doesn’t like reading, just know that either he’s immature or doesn’t know how to read!

  1. You Respect Everyone. Equally!

Mature people do not look down upon someone because of their family background, low income or the kind of job title they hold. They give a fruit vendor the equal amount of respect which they would give a billionaire.

The true sign of maturity is when you do not divide or differentiate your respect on the basis of race, gender, profession or looks of other people.

  1. Mature People Know That Health Is Wealth

Health is the realest wealth in this world. However, many will not agree with this until they get sick. And this is the exact moment when they would realize that they have wasted their entire life in accumulating the fake wealth (money) while taking their health for granted.
Prioritizing health is one of the characteristics of maturity
A mature person always values his health. They know that it’s the real wealth which can’t be purchased. This is the reason why mature men and women engage themselves in regular physical activities like exercise, morning walk, yoga etc.

  1. You Don’t Believe Everything You See or Hear on the News

If you are reluctant to believe everything that you hear, read or see on the news, television, newspaper or social media, you are mature. It’s hard to deceive a mature person for they have experienced a lot of things; they have made a lot of mistakes and learned from them.

A mature person does not believe everything on the news, because he knows that the truth is not always shown or told. Rather, he will make his own research to seek the real truth.

Inference

One more thing about mature people that I didn’t mention on the above is that they are inclined toward spirituality. So if you find any connection of yourself with the spiritual world, or if you can relate to any of the above-mentioned points, you may consider yourself to be a mature person. Do let me know what do you think about the signs of maturity I just discussed.

Did you find them helpful? Can you relate to any of them? What extra point would you have added as per your experience of maturity as you have grown now?
